Another piece of history tied to the now retired space shuttle fleet is getting set for its last journey.

The old 747 jumbo jet that ferried shuttles on its back across the country is headed for its new life as a museum piece just outside NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The aircraft has been disassembled, and its biggest pieces will be delivered on oversized flatbed trucks over two days starting Monday night. The 1,000-foot convoy will travel about walking speed the eight miles from Houston's Ellington Field to Space Center Houston.

The jet will be reassembled and topped by a shuttle replica.

Houston was left out as retirement home to the real shuttles. Those went to Los Angeles, Florida, the Smithsonian Institution and New York City.
