Sexual Assault Reported at Plano Middle School

Police say victim, suspect are minors

A juvenile has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault at a Plano middle school, police said.

The Plano Independent School District said a sexual assault at Armstrong Middle School involving students was reported Tuesday.

"The Plano Police Department has made an arrest, and the school district is coordinating with the police department to bring a conclusion to this matter," district spokeswoman Karla Oliver said in a statement. "The school district notified the campus community of parents regarding the alleged incident and the investigation.”

Police are releasing few details of the investigation in the alleged assault because the victim and the suspect are minors.

Parents and neighbors said the incident was shocking.

“That’s the kind of thing that scares me the most -- that it’s middle school,” said Matthew Elliot, who lives nearby. “This kind of thing I’d hear about in high school -- never in middle school.”

Kathy Meyer, whose children attended Armstrong, said she could not recall any other negative incidents about the school in recent memory.

“I do not expect that from the Plano school system,” she said.
