Severe Weather Causes Flooding in Fort Worth

Severe storms across North Texas on Tuesday left streets flooded and drivers stranded in Fort Worth.

The Fort Worth Fire Department responded to 42 calls about high water during the storms. Several calls were from the area of Hulen Street and Camp Bowie Boulevard.

“I’m lucky,” said Neftali Garcia. “I called my wife and said, ‘I’m drowning.”

Garcia attempted to turn around and avoid a flooded area on Main Street, but the rising water was too quick and swept his pickup truck down the street in water that reached 5 feet high.

“My truck ended up against that pole you can see all the debris,” said Garcia.

Christine Dunning, who works near Dexter Avenue, witnessed dozens of trucks and cars attempt to pass through the high water.

Dunning captured the rescue of two women stuck in water that reached the vehicle's headlights on video.

"The women inside of it, they were obviously scared but they were in there for quite a while," said Dunning.

The rainfall turned Ryan Place Drive into a river. Many people in that area were concerned that the water would enter their homes.

“There was a river flowing down this street and it was flooding into the yards,” said Turner.

The Wal-Mart on West Berry Street experienced flooding indoors that prompted them to close for the day.

But for much of the area, the water disappeared just as fast as it came.

“The water went away in 20 minutes after it happened,” said Garcia. “It disappeared.”

There have been no reports of injuries related to any of the high water calls, according to Fort Worth Fire Department.
