Several Police Cars Damaged in Chase

As many as 11 cars were reportedly damaged Friday during a police chase with the driver of a stolen work truck, police say.

NBC 5 has learned the chase began after a Grand Prairie Independent School District maintenance truck, towing a flatbed trailer loaded with a commercial-grade lawn mower, was stolen from Dubiski Career High School.

Officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop the driver, but the driver refused.

Officers pursued as the driver of the truck struck as many as 11 vehicles, pushing some motorists into others as he tried to escape.  The collisions involved as many as seven police vehicles.

Stop sticks were eventually deployed to try to stop the driver, but he continued on riding on just the rims.

As the chase drew to a close, the driver made one last attempt to elude police by driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of West Pioneer Parkway near South Carrier Parkway

With four deflated tires mostly shredded and ripped away, the driver of the stolen truck crashed into an oncoming red pickup truck and was taken into custody a short time later.

Police have not confirmed the number of police cars damaged in the chase, but initial, unconfirmed reports put that number as high as seven.

NBC 5's Ken Kalthoff tweeted that an officer was injured the crash.

The officer's injuries were minor and not life-threatening.
