Securing the Big Game

Police and private security are fanning out across North Texas for Super Bowl week.

"We have planned extensively, and we are prepared," Arlington police Chief Theron Bowman said. "This is a safe event so far, and it's going to be safe and, at the end of the day, we believe that it will be the safest and the best Super Bowl yet."

The Super Bowl is considered a level-one national security event, which allows for additional federal assistance. It includes extra security this week on commercial airplanes flying to and from North Texas.

"There will be some increase in coverage by air marshals and some other undercover increase that people won't see and, in addition on the day of the game itself, air space will be cleared," Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said.

Napolitano toured Cowboys Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The NFL will provide 3,000 private security officers on Super Bowl Sunday. Police are asking everyone in North Texas to report anything suspicious.

"We are constantly monitoring the environment around the stadium and all over North Texas for any potential threat or any perceived threats," Bowman said. "We are prepared."
