Injured Sea Turtle Finds New Home in Grapevine Aquarium

Sea Turtle Named After Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children

A sea turtle with two fins has a much larger home in a Grapevine aquarium.

'Scotti' the sea turtle was named in honor of Scottish Rite Hospital, a non-profit pediatric orthopedic hospital in Dallas.

Matthew Kennedy is a Scottish Rite patient and an ambassador chosing the name 'Scotti' for the turtle's name.

Kennedy and his family were on hand to cheer 'Scotti' on as he went into his new home in the big ocean tank at SEA LIFE Grapevine.

'Scotti' was rescued from the Gulf of Mexico and spent time at the Fort Worth Zoo before outgrowing his tank and being sent to the UT Marine Science Institute.

According to the aquarium, 'Scotti' was deemed unreleasable due to the injuries to his fins and shell.

His new home at SEA LIFE Grapevine is a 160,000-gallon ocean tank where he will live with two other rescue sea turtles.

Scotti's release into his new home was held on World Sea Turtle Day, June 16.
