Firefighters from nine agencies kept a close eye on a large scrap yard fire in Wise County on Saturday evening into Sunday morning.

The fire at Bridgeport Iron and Metal sent huge plumes of black smoke into the air. The business is located at 3261 South state Highway 101.

One firefighter was hospitalized for a heat related illness. Two others were treated at the scene. A total of 100 firefighters are on the scene.

Wise County Fire Marshal Chuck Beard said no buildings are involved but plenty of other materials are burning.

"Just different kinds of scrap, old cars, rubber, plastics, fuel anything that you'd find in a normal scrap yard," said Beard.

The fire was expected to burn through the night.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
