San Antonio Picked as Top Texas Destination by Texas Highways Readers

Readers of Texas Highways magazine have chosen San Antonio as their favorite destination in a countdown of the top 40 places to visit statewide.

Officials with Texas Highways, published monthly by the Texas Department of Transportation, made the announcement Tuesday in San Antonio. The countdown helped celebrate the publication's 40th anniversary.

Readers noted San Antonio has a Sea World park, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the Alamo, plus restaurants, shopping and accommodations.

Denton finished second in the informal survey, followed by Waco, the Big Bend and the Hill Country. Rounding out the top 10 choices are Rockport-Fulton, Fredericksburg, Nacogdoches, New Braunfels and Palo Duro Canyon.

Texas Highways has about 200,000 subscribers and an estimated 400,000 monthly readers.

Readers voted through the magazine's website and via Facebook, email, phone and mail.
