A man accused of striking and killing a 9-year-old girl in San Antonio while driving and texting has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
San Antonio media outlets report Isidro Espinosa-Solis was found guilty of failing to stop and render aid Wednesday before being sentenced later in the day. Authorities say Espinosa-Solis struck Tatyana Babineaux with his car as she was walking to school in January 2014.
Espinosa-Solis testified that he was driving back home to retrieve his toolbox that he forgot when the incident happened. Espinosa-Solis said he was sending a text message to his wife when he veered off the road and struck the 9-year-old.
After realizing what happened, Espinosa-Solis briefly fled to Mexico before returning to the border to turn himself in to authorities.
