Sachse Special Education Teacher Faces Felony Charge of Indecency With a Child

A special education teacher in Sachse faces a second-degree felony charge of indecency with a child - sexual contact.

Michael Roell, 35, of Rockwall, surrendered to police Monday. He's been on paid administrative leave from Hudson Middle School since May.

"We were notified by Sachse Police Department that a parent had come to them with a concern," said Tiffany Veno, spokesperson for the Garland Independent School District. "The safety of our students is our top priority."

Several students were interviewed at Dallas County Children's Advocacy Center, but the criminal charge is for one alleged victim.

"It broke me in a way I can't explain," said Cherish Hooper, through her tears. Hooper said her son is in Roell's class and was one of the students interviewed during the investigation.

"This is something that has truly, truly been a fear of mine," she said.

Hooper said her son described disturbing behavior from his teacher that she said included watching her son use the restroom, and more.

"That the teacher was touching him all the time with his clothes on, grabbing his behind, grabbing his crotch area, rubbing him," she said.

Roell posted $5,000 bond and was back home Monday night. NBC 5 attempted to talk to Roell at his home, but he closed the door without comment.
