A standoff between a wanted person and Grand Prairie SWAT officers ended Wednesday morning with the man being taken into custody.

A standoff between a wanted person and Grand Prairie SWAT officers ended Wednesday morning with the man being taken into custody.

Grand Prairie police said the incident actually began the night before when the suspect, identified by police as 22-year-old Julian Ripple, stole a gun from his girlfriend's house and, as he was leaving, fired a shot into the air.

Police looked for Ripple Tuesday night, but he eluded capture.

Grand Prairie police said they were then called to Ripple's family home on Family Circle at West Marshall Drive at about 4 a.m. Wednesday where family members said he assaulted a family member and was displaying the gun.  Fearing for their safety, Ripple's family said they called 911.

In the call to 911, the caller told police their adult son was alone inside the home with a gun and threatening to harm himself and others.

Officers arrived at the home and made contact with Ripple, who refused to surrender.  Police used a "throw phone" to talk with the man, but after several hours he still refused to surrender.

SWAT officers eventually entered the home and, at about 10:45 a.m., took him into custody.

Officials said Ripple was wanted in connection with two felony warrants, one for a felony narcotics charge and another for a prohibited weapons charge.  Ripple was arrested for the outstanding warrants and was additionally charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence) and felony criminal mischief.
