SM Wright Freeway Project Plans Announced

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the Regional Transportation Council, in partnership with the City of Dallas, are announcing the beginning of the SM Wright Freeway project initiatives at 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church.

The TxDOT SM Wright project is a series of improvements to US Highway 175 (SM Wright Freeway) and Interstate 45 in South Dallas.

The project will create new dirrect-connect ramps from CF Hawn Freeway to Interstate 45 and widen I-45 to the inside from Lamar Street to the SM Wright Freeway ramps.

In addition, SM Wright from I-45 to Budd Street will be reconstructed as a low speed, six-lane boulevard with landscaping.

At a cost of approximately $200 million, this is the largest public infrastructure project in the South Dallas area in a generation. The construction scheduled to begin this fall will be completed in about five years.
