S. Texas Man Slaughters Three Women, Kills Self: Police Say

Investigators say a south Texas man shot and killed his estranged wife, her mother and another woman before taking his own life.

The slaughter happened yesterday afternoon in Rio Grande City. Autopsies have been ordered.

Police Chief Dutch Piper said Francisco Pinal fatally shot his wife Lydia Pinal. She reportedly told a friend that she planned to seek a divorce.

Also killed was the gunman's mother-in-law, Rosa Alaniz, and another woman in the front yard of the third woman's house.

Police say Francisco Pinal then left, went home and fatally shot himself.

Lydia Pinal's nephew, Ricardo Gonzalez, tells The Monitor of McAllen that there was a history of domestic violence between his aunt and her husband of more than 20 years.
