It happened at the Central Freight Lines building on the 5200 block of David Strickland Road at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

Fire officials said the forklift operator struck a column, causing the roof to cave in partially.

Crews rescued the operator from the rubble. He was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital with minor injuries.

Officials describe the collapse about the size of two loading docks.
