Riding and Praying Together: North Texas Bikers Form Church in Corinth

A new kind of church rolls into Corinth this Sunday morning, one started by and made for bikers.

The Rushing Winds Biker Church will hold its first official service inside the Grand Traditions Ballroom behind the Corinth Harley Davidson dealership, on the southbound Interstate 35E service road.

The church was started by a local biker and licensed chaplain who goes by the name Sidecar and who said he’s been riding his motorcycle cross-country for years preaching the word of the Bible. That’s included fellowships every month or so at the Harley dealership.

When dealership owners bought the old ballroom next door though, Sidecar said they offered it up as a space for the fellowships to become more regular and move to an indoor space.

Now, the church will hold service every first and third Sunday at 10 a.m., followed, of course, by a motorcycle ride to lunch.

A simple search online shows biker churches like this one are in several communities across the U.S., and Sidecar said he actually went to several of the leaders of those congregations for advice on starting one in DFW.

"This is all about very casual worship,” he said. “And this is not high church, don't try to make it high church."

Members said visitors can expect a lot of leather and a lot of bikes parked out front, as well as a lot of music from their house band and positive prayer.

"We've all been through a lot of things, just like everybody, bikers, non-bikers. We all go through stuff,” said Music Minister Tim “8-Ball” Banks. “And we're just looking forward to sharing God's love."

Leaders in the church said they try to keep away from politics in their worship and stick to simple, Christianity for the every-person.

Sidecar said he’s hopeful the idea will take off  and that they can spread the message to as many as possible, though he said he’s happy to preach for as many or as few show up.

The group is encouraging anyone, even non-bikers, to attend saying “two wheels, three wheels, or four wheels,” are welcome.
