Retailers: Black Friday Slower Than Usual

Black Friday is underway and many business owners say it is a bit slower than normal.

Some blame the new trend of stores opening on Thanksgiving.

"It's been pretty quiet," Nothing Bundt Cakes manager Kathy Tran said. "We may have a couple of peak times, but for the most part it will be slow for most of the day."

Tran β€” who manages a cake and gift store β€” said even though they expect the day before Thanksgiving to be their busiest, they have seen a trend of fewer shoppers coming on Black Friday.

Shoppers like Sam Davis said things have been calm so far on this Black Friday.

"We did stop by another store, which opened at six," Davis said. "The previous one opened up at five, and there were people outside waiting."

Even though the business owners we spoke with do not like a slow Black Friday, the shoppers that spoke to NBC 5 said they prefer a less chaotic event.
