At about 9:36 p.m. Thursday police got a 911 call from a resident on the 4200 block of Lomo Alto Drive. The caller exclaimed, "My ceiling has fallen into the floor!" according to police.

When officers arrived they found a 20 x 20 hole in the roof of the 3-story, 12-unit townhouse.

Sgt. Lance Koppa said the roof collapsed into the 3rd floor of the building's northwest corner with enough force to also partially fall into the two floors below.

A resident was in the 3rd floor unit when the incident happened but was not in the living area where the collapse occurred.

A total of three residents were in two of the three units effected and all were evacuated. Police also evacuated other residents in the 12-unit building and say they will have to stay out as a precaution until a structural engineers can come in Friday and determine if it is safe.

Koppa said there were also two dogs in the third floor unit that weren't found right away, but eventually were located safe, hiding in another part of the apartment.

At this point officers don't know what caused the collapse, but hope to get answers when the engineers get there and complete their investigation.

No one was hurt in the incident.
