Reserve Deputy Fired in Fannin over Comments on Transgender People

The Fannin County Sheriff says a reserve deputy has been fired because of comments on a Facebook page about people who are transgender.

Sheriff Mark Johnson posted on Facebook saying he reviewed the comments with administrative staff, which lead to the reserve deputy being let go from the Fannin County Sheriff's Office.

"I want the citizens of this county to know that we are committed to protecting and serving each and every individual that we encounter regardless of age, race or sexual orientation," Johnson said. "I personally expect my deputies to use professionalism and compassion at all times while upholding the law. I publicly apologize for the actions of this officer."
