Court records say three members of a West Texas family conspired to kill an Abilene man and kidnap his daughter in an effort to gain custody of her.
Arrest affidavits obtained Wednesday by the San Angelo Standard-Times allege 34-year-old Stephen Jennings and his wife, 28-year-old Kristen Jennings, conspired with his father and two others in the July death of Eric Torrez.
The affidavits say Stephen Jennings lured the 41-year-old Torrez to San Angelo on the pretense of bidding on construction work.
But Jennings and an accomplice allegedly beat Torrez and later shot him.
Kristen Jennings is the mother of Torrez's daughter and authorities say she went with her father-in-law to unlawfully take the child from an Abilene home.
Stephen Jennings is charged with murder and Kristen Jennings with engaging in organized criminal activity.
Online jail records don't indicate attorneys for the couple.
