Rare Olympic Trophy on Display at the Colonial Country Club

Golf history is preserved at Colonial Country Club.

A Ben Hogan mini-museum is on display featuring many of the legend's trophies. His office remains intact near the pro shop. Plus, a key golf club used by every Colonial tournament winner is proudly shown throughout the facility.

So perhaps this tournament is the perfect place to admire one of the game's rarest artifacts. The last time golf was in the Olympics was 1904, and this was the trophy -- won by a Canadian and kept in the country's golf hall of fame and museum.

This rare trophy will be on display this week at the Colonial.

"The 1904 Olympics was actually the first year that gold, silver, bronze medals were introduced and so trophies were actually awarded at the same time," said Meggan Gardner, of the Canadian Hall of Fame and Museum.

Golf returns to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games after a 112 year absence. And yes, Jordan Spieth is currently qualified.

"I'm interested in checking out the trophy and I'm interested in keeping a very close eye on what's going on around the Olympics too, mainly off the course. And trying to figure out the safety concerns and figure out plans but as of now I'm extremely excited for it," says Spieth.

Many golfers have withdrawn their names from Olympic consideration due to health concerns in Brazil, but Spieth isn't one of them.

Unlike in 1904, the winner of the 2016 Olympic golf tournament will not receive a trophy. Instead, they'll take home a gold medal.
