Rare Book of Puritan Psalms on Display in Houston

A book of Puritan psalms produced in 1640 will go on display in Houston for one day only.

"The Bay Psalm Book" goes on display Thursday at the Bayou Bend house museum of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

The psalter is to be auctioned in November by the famed auction house Sotheby's New York. David Redden is Sotheby's special projects director. He says he thinks the leather-bound book will fetch from $15 million to $30 million.

Redden says the book was the first printed in what would become the United States of America and is one of only 11 copies still known to exist. The auction copy is one of two owned by Boston's Old South Church, which is selling it to support its missions and ministries.
