Queso Battle in Washington as Senators Have Taste Test

A heated Twitter war among U.S. senators from Texas and Arkansas boiled down to a blind taste test in the U.S. Capitol Wednesday.

Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz faced off against Sens. Tom Cotton and John Boozman of Arkansas to see which was better — Queso, or Arkansas' so-called "cheese dip."

And the winner is...

Arkansas Cheese Dip. Seriously.

How did this happen?

How the Battle Started

The battle began in November, when Cotton tweeted a Wall Street Journal article touting Arkansas' devotion to the sweet nectar Texans know as chile con queso.

Then, Cotton dropped a bomb.

One minute later, Cornyn corrected the grave error.

"The idea that a guy from Arkansas would call it cheese dip just shows how much they don't get it," Cornyn told The Dallas Morning News.

If it couldn't get any cheesier, Cornyn offered a solution:

"Gentlemen: On behalf of 27M Texans, we accept your challenge. Grab your chips and let's have a taste-off."

Wednesday, the senators tried samples from both states and cast a vote for their favorite.

Dallas' Uncle Julio's represented Texas with its Chile con Queso, which is simply described as a "spicy blend of cheeses."

Arkansas went all in with cheese dip from Little Rock-based Heights Taco and Tamale Co. It's a World Cheese Dip Professional Division champion, apparently.

One thing is for sure: a queso champion has been named. Even if Texans don't necessarily like the results.

We're open to samples.
