Prosper Police Officers to Wear Body Cameras

The Prosper Police Department is the latest North Texas police department to purchase body cameras for all of its officers.

The body cameras to be worn by the department's 19 officers record both video and audio and will be worn in the center of the officer's chest.

Assistant Chief Gary McHone said the cameras can usually record about a day’s worth of video and will be a great asset for the growing department.

"I think it will be a great addition to our department because, with the rapid growth we are experiencing, it is a great opportunity for us to let technology enhance our department to the absolute best of our ability," said McHone.

McHone said they were always planning on purchasing body cameras.

β€œThis is something we wanted to take a proactive step,” said McHone. β€œWe had been looking a bringing the body cameras into our operations for quite some time and from a budgetary standpoint we were able to do that this year.”

The Prosper Police Department is continuing to grow. They just hired three new officers.
