Supporters of gay marriage demonstrate in front of the Mormon Church November 12, 2008 in New York City. Following the passing of Proposition 8, a measure to stop gay marriage in California, last week, many gay activists have been blaming the Mormon Church for the passage of Proposition 8 due to the church?s significant role in activism against gay marriage.
Last weekend, more than a hundred supporters of the LGBT community in Dallas picketed First Baptist Church in Dallas as Paster Robert Jeffress spoke in a sermon titled "Why Gay Is Not O.K." (read our coverage of the protest)
This weekend, organizers plan to picket outside the church as Jeffress gives a sermon on "how to talk to a homosexual."
The momentum gained after Nov. 4th, specifically related to California's Proposition 8 -- a state-wide ban on same-sex marriages -- has energized communities outside of the golden state.
Organizer Etta Zamboni told a group gathered at Crossroads Market on Monday, "This is no just for California; this is for all of us."
Dallas' community is only one of cities targeting this weekend for protestng Proposition 8; Houston, Austin, and many others are planning to rally against the ban.
Dallas City Hall is the first target for protesters at a rally beginning at 12:30 Saturday. First Baptist Church is the site of the second rally set to coincide with the 10 am. Sunday service.
