Prison Dogs Help Track Suspect in Crash That Killed 5

Investigators are crediting a pair of state prison agency tracking dogs with finding a West Texas man who fled the scene of a weekend traffic wreck that left five people dead.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Witt told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal two dogs from a prison transfer facility in Brownfield led troopers from the crash site about two miles northeast of Seagraves to a semi-trailer where 24-year-old Ramon Aguilar was found hiding hours later.

Aguilar now is being held on more than $2 million bond on multiple charges, including manslaughter.

Department of Criminal Justice Maj. Cody Parker says dogs and handlers from his canine unit were summoned and nearly three hours later found Aguilar. His scent was taken from a pickup truck left at the accident scene.
