Power Line Falls, Damages Road

Oncor officials estimated that nearly 500 Dallas homes and several businesses lost power after a power line malfunction early Tuesday morning.

Officials said people started calling at about 1:15 a.m. to report smoke coming from a power line in the 4200 block of Easter Avenue in South Oak Cliff.

The power line fell shortly after and the heat caused small pieces of pavement to pop out of the street.

Officials said about 1,000 people lost power after the power line fell. The malfunction also tripped several burglar alarms and forced repair crews to close the intersection of Easter Avenue and Custer Drive.

Crews restored power at about 2:30 a.m., officials said.
