Popular Plano Halloween House Scares People One Last Time

On a quiet street in Plano, you'll find the neighbors you'd least expect: Carrie, Jason and Freddy Krueger.

"Freddy Kreuger's not too bad. It's The Exorcist one that's the scary one!" said Nera VanArk.

VanArk just moved in a few houses down from Tony Giles's Halloween home masterpiece on Pine Lakes Drive, stopping by to marvel at the monsters Monday evening.

Giles has filled his front lawn with creatures from your nightmares for the last seven years.

But this Halloween will be his last time putting up such an elaborate display.

"It's just time for me to call it quits," Giles said.

He said the homeowners' association didn't ask him to stop, but they asked him how they could help him with a big finale.

"It takes time, money and, honestly, it's gotten pretty big for the neighborhood," Giles said.

Many in the neighborhood clearly love it – creepy lights mix with camera flashes as people drive in from all over North Texas, and beyond, to see the creatures up close. The home even has its own Facebook page.

Giles teams up with "monster-makers" to craft the realistic-looking masks. He and his brother build the bodies. This year is the first time he's repeated a "theme" because it was so popular: monsters from your favorite scary movies.

"I plan it for three or four months ahead of time," he said. "I think I've created a lot of memories for a lot of kids."

The decor goes up on Oct. 1 and comes down Nov. 1, and it is free to visit and enter.

The home is in the 700 block of Pine Lakes Drive in Plano – you can't miss it.

Last Halloween, Giles said there were so many trick-or-treaters in the street, the haunted house had to be shut down.

This year, he has secured a permit to close down the street to traffic and will have several Plano police officers on hand to make sure everyone stays safe.
