Police Warn of Felony Lane Gang Crime in North Texas

A crime often referred to as the Felony Lane Gang crime is again gaining steam in Denton County and other parts of North Texas.

In March Flower Mound police took six different reports of cars being burglarized outside of five day cares, with the owners purses and valuables taken.

In one case the crime was caught on surveillance cameras in front of Kids R Kids on Farm-to-Market Road 407.

In the video taken on March 11, a car pulls up near another car parked in front of the building, a person in the first car approaches and looks into the vehicle’s windows before returning to his car for a few seconds, then the man goes back to the car, breaks into a window, steals a purse from inside and drives off.

Flower Mound Assistant Police Chief Wendell Mitchell said bank cards taken in these crimes are often quickly taken to banks and used before the owner can take action.

"These aren't persons that are looking for full-time jobs like honest people, they're looking to deprive you of your property,” said Mitchell.

The neighboring Lewisville Police Department also posted a warning to their social media pages about the crime coming up there, and several departments across the area have taken reports of thefts from inside of vehicles in recent weeks, though those are not specifically credited to the Felony Lane Gang crime.

Last weekend, Flower Mound police arrested 47-year-old Romie Richardson after they observed him entering unlocked cars at a local baseball field. He was charged with burglary of a vehicle.

Mitchell said this is a good reminder to everyone to hide valuables left in your car, take them with you, and always lock your vehicle doors.

“This is a quick crime,” he said.
