Police: Teens Shot Man Who Jumped Out of Car

Rowlett police said they arrested two people in connection with the shooting of a man who jumped from a vehicle to escape Wednesday morning.

Officers arrived at the 7-11 store in the 8500 block of Lakeview Parkway and found the conscious 27-year-old victim with a gunshot wound in his chest at about 12:24 a.m., according to Rowlett Police Department spokesman Cruz Hernandez.

Surveillance video shows the victim jumping from a vehicle in the 7-11 parking lot. Police said the victim described the vehicle and told officers it was heading west on Lakeview Parkway.

Minutes later, Hernandez said officers stopped a vehicle matching the victim's description after a brief chase in the 3500 block of Lakeview Parkway. Officers arrested Rogelio Martinez and Antonio Sandoval, both 19, for outstanding warrants.

During the stop, police said the officer saw blood and the gun used in the shooting inside the car.

The victim was taken to Medical Center of Plano in serious condition, according to police. He died shortly after arrival.

Police said Martinez and Sandoval will be charged with capital murder.

Editor's note: Sources initally indicated that the victim was pushed out of the vehicle. After investigating, police officials told NBC 5 that the victim jumped out of the vehicle in an attempt to escape.
