Police Shoot Man After 2 Females Stabbed in Watauga

A man believed to have stabbed two women is in critical condition after being shot by Watauga police Friday afternoon, police say.

According to police, officers were called to a home on the 6400 block of Patsy Lane for an assault in progress. When officers arrived, they reported finding two females suffering from stab wounds.

At some point after police arrived they were involved in a confrontation with the man who is believed to have stabbed the women. During that altercation, the officer pulled his weapon and shot the man, police said.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The women were also hospitalized, but their conditions are not yet known.

The officer was not injured.

“It is not exactly clear what unfolded at the time, but the officer had to take enforcement action and he did so,” said Watauga PIO Jason Babcock.

The suspect appeared to be in critical condition. The two victims were both taken to the hospital. One has been released.

Neighbors tells us the people who lived there moved in recently.  They heard the shots, and were shaken up.

“You teach your family to be aware of your surroundings and to really realize it can really happen across the street. I don’t want to sound cliche but it really is a quiet neighborhood and you would not expect anything like this to happen,” said neighbor Ginger canaan.

A man who lives across the street tells NBC 5 his wife heard screams outside.

"She was going to walk over there to find out, then the man stopped hitting the woman and went towards the other woman, and realized the man had a knife and seen the blood, said neighbor Michael Morris.

The investigation into the shooting and stabbings is ongoing. From Chopper 5 Friday afternoon, several investigators could be seen photographing a blood-soaked portion of the home's driveway and using a metal detector while searching the front lawn.

Police have not yet revealed the motive behind the attack or the relationship, if any, between the women and the man.
