The rescue unfolded about 11 p.m. last Friday in the 5800 block of Military Parkway.

A driver who was traveling eastbound sped off the road just past a curve, then rolled down a steep hill to a creek near Parkdale Park.

His car landed upside down in the water, and the chilly creek water started pouring in.

Three Dallas police officers from the Southeast Crime Response Team Unit soon scrambled down the hill and rescued the trapped driver.

One officer used a tire iron to break open a window while another recorded the entire rescue with his body camera. The Dallas Police Department released the video footage on Thursday.

The officers guided the man through the open window, and pulled him to safety.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said he did not need to be taken to the hospital.

"It is a great feeling to help anyone. But at that point when it is happening you don't think about it. You are not doing anything anyone other person would not do. There were citizens sitting on the side of the road. They were wanting to get down there just as fast as we were," said Officer Chris Cooley.

As luck would have it, they were just about a block away, meeting for a narcotics operation.  After the 911 call went out, they were able to get there immediately.  They don't know why the man plunged into the creek, but it is by what they described as a blind corner.
