Two dogs were fatally shot and two people were hospitalized following a vicious dog attack overnight Monday in Fort Worth.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, they were called to the 3300 block of North Crump Street where two dogs attacked two people and another dog.
Police said a man who lived in the neighborhood went outside just after midnight after hearing his dog in trouble. When he got outside, he was mauled by two dogs that were attacking his dog.
Soon after, the man's adult daughter came outside after hearing her father's screams and was also attacked. After being bitten on her feet and backside, she was able to retreat to safety inside the home.
A neighbor heard the commotion and called 911. The first officer to arrive described the scene as a man being eaten by dogs and he was concerned about shooting the dogs due to their proximity to the victim. The officer soon determined the only way to save the man was to shoot the dogs, so he opened fire, wounding both animals.
The dogs, described by police as pit bulls, then retreated. Police said a second officer who arrived at the scene fatally shot the animals.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was transported in serious condition to an area hospital with deep bite wounds covering his body, arms, legs and face. He is in serious condition but is expected to survive the attack.
The man's daughter was also hospitalized. Her condition is not believed to be serious.
The dog belonging to father and daughter ran from the scene and has not been found, according to police.
