Police Investigating After Man Jumps from Collin County Courthouse

A Collin County man is expected to survive after jumping from the courthouse building Wednesday morning.

The situation unfolded at the Collin County courthouse at 2100 Bloomdale Road.

The man was attending his court hearing at about 11 a.m. and was told his probation was revoked. He was sentenced to 5 years, according to court officials.

After the judge read the sentence, the man got up and ran out of the courtroom. He made his way over a barrier on the third story of the courthouse and jumped to the first floor below.

Witnesses reported seeing him hit a wooden bench and then fall to the ground.

The Collin County Sheriff's Office said attempts were made to hold the man back, but he still made it over the barrier and jumped.

The incident is now under investigation.

It's unknown what charges the man was facing or if he will face any new criminal charges after this incident.

Officials told NBC 5 that he was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive the fall.
