Man Dead After Shooting Self at Vista Ridge Mall

Lewisville police say a man who shot himself at Vista Ridge Mall on Monday afternoon died from his injuries.

Police said officers were called to the mall shortly after 4 p.m. after a man and a woman got into a verbal argument.

The man pulled out handgun and shot himself in front of a jewelry store and shot himself while mall security was escorting him away from the mall.

Police called it a self-inflicted gunshot wound and said the 25-year-old man intended to shoot himself.

The man did not threaten anyone else, police said.

CareFlite was called to the 2400 block of South Stemmons Freeway, but the man was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

A worker at Justice, a girl's clothing store inside the mall, told NBC 5 she heard shots fired, saw police and closed the doors to the store.

Nearby stores closed, but the mall remained open. People were advised to avoid the downstairs entrance near the theater for a couple of hours.
