Police Investigate Dead Goat Found on Berkner High School Campus

Richardson police were at Berkner High School Friday morning, after the band found a dead animal on the practice field.

“A dead goat was found early this morning on Berkner High School’s campus, hanging from a practice field goal post," said Tim Clark, the Director of Communications for Richardson ISD. "It was removed by City of Richardson Animal Control. RISD has not been able to determine who was responsible."

An incident report was filed with the Richardson Police Department.

Berkner’s mascot is the ram. On Friday, Berkner’s football team played Plano East. Many Berkner students and parents believe it was a horrible high school prank.

“I actually graduated from Berkner so I know the long standing history and rivalry but it’s gone too far,” said Jennifer Bryant. Her daughters are in the band and saw the dead goat at band practice.

“There is always the toilet papering and that type of thing but actually harming an animal?” Bryant asked.

Several Plano East students and fans could be heard bleating in the stands.

Jerry Sampson volunteers with the Plano East band. He heard about the dead animal while driving the band to the game.

“Well I love rivalries, I remember my days, but I think when I heard that, it went a little too far,” Sampson said.
