Police: Houston Security Guard Injured in Shooting

Houston police say two would-be robbers at a grocery store shot a security guard and took a woman hostage to escape.

Lt. Larry Crowson told KPRC-TV two suspects tried to rob the manager of Big City Foods at gunpoint on Wednesday night. The plain clothes security guard surprised the suspects and exchanged gunfire with them.

Crowson said the guard chased them into a nearby business where they used a woman as a human shield to escape the store. The guard then got into a physical altercation with one of the suspects and was shot once in the leg before they fled.

The guard was hospitalized. Crowson said he is expected to survive.

No other injuries were reported.

Police are searching for the suspects.
