Dead Body Found During Traffic Stop

Officers have one person in custody

Dallas police say just before 4 a.m., an officer did a routine traffic stop on a big-rig at Bonnie View and the eastbound Interstate 20 on-ramp.

The officer stopped the truck because it appeared the brakes were locking up.

“He noticed the brakes appeared to be locking up on the 18 wheeler. He pulled it over, just basically to make sure the driver was OK and knew he was having brake problems,” said Sgt. Benny Handley, with the Dallas Police Department. “While interviewing the driver of the vehicle he noticed there was someone laying down inside the truck.”

Handley says the victim was on the floorboard in between the seats.

Police said the victim, a man believed to be 45-50 years old, appears to have been stabbed.
“It’s not something that happens every day.  The officer involved is a veteran officer, a really good officer.  He stayed calm, got the initial driver in custody.  We’re proud of him,” said Handley.

The man who had been driving is in custody, but has not been arrested. He’s being questioned about the homicide.
