A driver who led police on a chase through Dallas County surrendered to police inside an apartment complex in Carrollton Friday afternoon.

Officers began following the white pickup truck in Mesquite after the driver refused to pull over for a traffic stop.

The driver eventually pulled into an apartment complex at 3030 Country Square Drive in Carrollton and parked.

There were concerns the driver may have been suicidal, so officers used extreme caution while talking with the driver. The man was said to be holding a box cutter.

NBC 5's Ames Meyer reported officers had the man's girlfriend on the phone and were trying to put the two in contact during the negotiation.

Shortly before 12:15 p.m., one of the officers who had been talking with the driver managed to convince the man to get out of the truck.  The man was then taken into custody.
