A police chase that began at a Garland Wal-Mart ended at another busy Wal-Mart in Dallas on Wednesday night.
The pursuit began during a routine traffic stop shortly before 9 p.m. when officers responded to a disturbance call at a Garland Wal-Mart.
The driver then led at least five police agencies on a chase that wound through Dallas, Garland and Mesquite for about an hour.
The suspect finally drove up to a Wal-Mart at Interstate 30 and Loop 12, where he was apprehended. He crashed his sport utility vehicle into a pole in front of the store and then ran inside.
Witnesses said officers tackled the man shortly after he ran into the store.
Police identified the driver as Eddiberto Hernandez.
Hernandez has a criminal record that goes back more than a decade and includes charges for drugs, driving while intoxicated, and assault. Additionally, Hernandez was convicted of evading arrest in 2003 and 2005, and faces that charge again with the latest incident.
Brenda Alvarado saw officers take Hernandez into custody when she and her sister were heading out of the store.
"I just see her running back towards me, and I was like, 'What's going on?' And then I see like four or five cops -- I'm not even sure how many there was -- on top of the guy because he was resisting and he didn't want to, like, be handcuffed. And [it was] scary," she said.

No bystanders or police officers were injured at the Wal-Mart. Hernandez was loaded into an ambulance shortly after 10 p.m. Hernandez is in jail in Garland.
