Police Blotter: Man Shot at Quik Trip; $160,000 in Pot Found

Here's a list of recent activities drawing the attention of Texas law enforcement. List compiled on Sept. 6, 2013.

Man Shot to Death in Fort Worth
A 30-year-old man was fatally shot in front of an apartment building in the 1800 block of Northwest 20th Street on Friday evening, according to MedStar EMS. No one else was injured. Fort Worth police said no one witnessed the shooting. Someone who heard the shot called 911.

Fire Breaks Out at Fort Worth Apartments
A fire was reported at an apartment complex in Benbrook in the 5700 block of Bellaire Drive South near Southwest Boulevard and Bryant Irvin Road on Friday afternoon. No injuries were reported in the fire at the River Glen Apartment complex. Firefighters from Fort Worth, Benbrook and Aledo are all at the scene. Fire crews found one of the apartment buildings completely enveloped in fire when they arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire Gutted Lewisville Home Under Renovation
Lewisville firefighters were called to a home that was being renovated in the 1100 block of Kingston Drive for a fire. Fire investigators say an electrical short sparked the fire in a storage shed in the back of the house. No one was injured. No one was living in the home because of the remodeling.

Technical Rescue in Southlake
A dive team was called to a pond near a church near Pine Street and White Chapel Road after a car crashed into the water. Southlake Deputy Fire Chief Wade Carroll said the driver lost control of his vehicle because of some type of medical issue. The driver was taken to Baylor Grapevine in serious condition. No one else was in the vehicle.

Man Shot at Quik Trip, Girlfriend's Ex Sought
A man was shot at a Quik Trip convenience store at Miller and Shiloh roads in Garland Friday morning, Garland police say. According to police, an armed man followed another man into the store at about 7:30 a.m. and shot him in the head. The victim, 31-year-old William Chapman, is in critical condition and is believed to be dating the gunman's ex-girlfriend. The girlfriend in question was not at the store when the shooting took place. The gunman, identified by police as 32-year-old Domingo Soto (pictured, above), is being sought by police on an aggravated assault warrant. Anyone with information on Soto's location is asked to call the Garland Police Department.

$160,000 in Pot Found in Fannin County
Fifty massive marijuana plants were found in a greenhouse in Fannin County Thursday. Most of the plants were about 18 feet tall and, in total, weighed over 50 pounds and were worth an estimated $160,000. Fannin County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Ricky Joe Shugart, 52, of Ivanhoe. Shugart is being held in the Fannin County jail. Shugart has been charged with possession of marijuana over 50 pounds, but under 2,000 pounds, which is a 2nd-degree felony.

Two Shot, Killed in Dallas Apartment Complex
Two men were shot and killed during an attempted robbery at the San Mateo Apartments on San Mateo Boulevard in Dallas overnight. Police said Friday afternoon that a group of people tried to rob the two men and a shootout ensued. The two men were killed in the exchange of gunfire. One of the alleged robbers was injured in the shootout and later arrested. He has been identified as 19-year-old Carl Russell. A second man, 18-year-old Dewen Vann Knight, was also arrested in connection with the shooting. Both Knight and Russell have been charged with capital murder, police said.

Church Damaged by Fire
The sanctuary at a Dallas church was damaged by a fire early Friday morning. The first fire call to the Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church was received at about 6 a.m. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from destroying the church by keeping it contained to a small area of the sanctuary. There were no reported injuries.

Bank Robbed in Garland
Garland police are investigating a bank robbery that took place in the city Friday morning. According to police, the robbery took place at the ViewPoint Bank on Jupiter Road, north of Buckingham. Further details about the robbery have not yet been confirmed by police.
   
Apartment Catches Fire in Garland
A one-alarm fire broke out at the Peachtree Apartments on the 4600 block of Saturn Road in Garland Friday morning. There have been no injuries reported in the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
