Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Stole Officer's Car

A South Texas police officer investigating an apparent vehicle burglary did not have to go far to nab the suspect.

A man who allegedly broke into an officer's car in the Corpus Christi Police Department parking lot was being held Thursday on charges of burglary, evading arrest and assaulting an officer.

Jail records don't list an attorney for 28-year-old Alexander Toynes, who's held on $6,500 bond after being arrested early Wednesday.

A Corpus Christi officer on patrol pulled into the lot and noticed a man in a parked 2005 Mercedes-Benz, with the driver's door open. Investigators said the suspect tried to run, but was captured by the officer and the pair struggled. The officer suffered minor scratches while arresting Toynes.

The vehicle belongs to another officer who was on duty.
