Police: Armed Texas Man Fatally Shot by Officer

Authorities say a U.S. marshal has fatally shot an armed Texas man wanted in the killing of his wife in front of her children.

The New Braunfels Police Department said 35-year-old Jerry Hermes Jr. was fatally shot on Monday after authorities found him hiding in a Guadalupe County barn.

U.S. Marshal Robert Almonte said Hermes "engaged" members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and ignored orders to drop a handgun before he was shot.

No other injuries were reported.

Hermes was charged with murder in the Sunday death of his 32-year-old wife, Lisa Hermes. Police said he shot her multiple times while they were in an SUV with her three children in the back seat. The children were not injured.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
