A 16-year-old student died Thursday night after he collapsed during a workout at Plano East Senior High School.
A coach and trainer performed CPR on Zachary Schrah, and used the school’s automated external defibrillator until a crew from the Plano Fire Department arrived and took over. Schrah received CPR as he was transported to the Medical Center of Plano, where he later died.
Schrah was a sophomore at Clark High School in Plano and a member of the school's junior varsity football team.
Schrah's family tells The Dallas Morning News that Zachary had undergone a physical after his freshman year that didn't reveal any health problems.
The Collin County medical examiner is working to determine the cause of Schrah's death.
Plano Independent School District officials said grief counselors will be at the school to talk to students.
Two Facebook memorial pages are up remembering the sophomore.
