Plano Names New Fire Chief

Former chief retired in July

A longtime firefighter and department administrator in Shreveport, La., has been named fire chief in a North Texas city.

Brian Crawford takes over as Plano Fire Department chief on Dec. 3.

Crawford's hiring was announced Monday. He's worked 28 years with the City of Shreveport, most recently as assistant chief administrative officer. He started as a firefighter and worked his way up to chief of the fire department.

Crawford, as assistant chief administrative officer, was in charge of a $500 million operating budget and also dealt with emergency management situations.

Plano fire Chief Hugo Esparza retired in July.
