Plano Community Prays for Two Girls Tied Together Through Tragedy

Dozens gathered in downtown Plano’s Haggard Park Sunday evening to pray for two young girls who are fighting for their lives.

Liberty Utley, 7, and Jayden “Jay-Fay” Fraser, 12, were both involved in separate car crashes in which they suffered severe brain injuries.

Utley was in the car with her father and siblings when it was rear-ended just seconds from their Plano home on Nov. 15.

Fraser was leaving from feeding the homeless at a Dallas shelter with her parents, brother and friend when their car was rear-ended on Thanksgiving Day.

The girls’ hospital rooms ended up just two doors apart from each other at Children’s Medical Center Plano. Their families are now bonded through their shared tragedies.

“This isn’t the type of situation you want to meet in, but for both of us, it helps for support,” said Shannon Utley, Liberty’s mom. “Her mother and I both believe they were put there together for a higher reason.”

Both girls have been in medically-induced comas since their crashes, but have been showing signs of progress every day.

“Every day is a new miracle,” said Jason Fraser, Jayden’s dad. “It’s the small things. Today, she breathed without a machine. They wanted to do it for a minute, then it turned into half an hour, then an hour and so that’s a huge miracle.”

Under the twinkling Plano Christmas tree, a middle-school choir sang Amazing Grace. Dozens of people from the community who know either Liberty, Jay-Fay or both, prayed for their recovery.

“Your prayers are the thing that the Lord is going to listen to and that’s what we need,” Shannon added.
