Plano Business Planning Event to Honor Police

A Plano business is starting a new tradition this Friday.

Love and War in Texas, which has been in business for about 15 years on the city’s east side, plans to holding its first event to support law enforcement.

Owner Tye Phelps said with police in the headlines across the country, it made him want to celebrate the positive in his community.

“Maybe in Texas we’re a little different, but we support our law enforcement,” Phelps said. “Mostly for the police officers, I feel sorry for them – for them having to see that every day in the newspaper and on TV.”

The event will feature live music, a silent auction, food and opening ceremonies to honor police.

Admission is free for law enforcement officers from any part of Texas and $10 for other attendees.

All the proceeds will go to the Texas Peace Officers' Memorial in Austin.

“It’s an important time, I think, for this really to come together,” said Clint McNear, a retired police officer and one of the event’s organizers.

He said having the idea for the event “speaks volumes” to the Phelps’ character, but he is not surprised that RSVPs have already been in the hundreds.

The event starts Friday at 7 p.m. at Love and War in Texas’ Plano location.
