Small plane made a hard landing near a grass strip in Rio Vista, TX. No injuries were reported
A plane made a hard landing Monday afternoon in Rio Vista.
Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alvord said the plane landed on a grass strip on Farm to Market Road 916/Smith Ranch Road behind an old bank in downtown Rio Vista.
Lynn Lunsford with the Federal Aviation Administration says the pilot of the single-engine Cessna 172 was practicing touch-and-go landings when the plane was caught by a gust of wind and forced down.
Chopper 5 could see the plane tipped up onto its nose. Three people were on the plane but Alvord said everyone appeared to be OK.
Alvord said the grass landing strip was a remnant from when the bank was open and customers would fly in to conduct business.
