Pit Bull Dies After Attacking Boy, 13, at Dallas Apartment Complex

Child recovering after dog attacks legs outside Dallas apartment building

A 13-year-old boy is recovering in a Dallas hospital after being pinned down and attacked by a pit bull Monday night.

According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, the boy was attacked at the Bora Bora Apartments on the 5900 block of Gaston Avenue at about 8:30 p.m.

A resident was able to pull the child away from the dog, Dallas Fire-Rescue said, but the dog continued to attack the boys legs. The resident was finally able to pin the animal in a doorway until first responders arrived.

After a Dallas police officer used a stun gun to disable the dog and allow the boy to exit the apartment, the dog died.

The boy was taken to Children's Medical Center where he was treated for serious wounds to his lower legs. The boy's identity and current condition have not been confirmed.

The dog and its owner were identified by the animal's microchip, which directed police and animal control officers to a nearby address. Officials learned the dog’s owner was out of town and that the animal had been left in the care of the owner's brother.

The brother was cited for "dog at large" after telling officials the dog escaped the yard. Dallas police said additional charges may be filed.

This dog attack coincided with the vigil of another dog attack victim, Antoinette Brown, who died May 2.
