Perry Issues Disaster Proclamation Over Wildfires

The threat of extreme wildfires has led Gov. Rick Perry to issue a disaster proclamation for most of Texas.

The proclamation covers 244 of the state's 254 counties.

Perry says lack of precipitation has dried grass and other vegetation across the state. He says the "significant fire danger" is expected to continue.

The governor says all necessary measures, both public and private, are authorized to be implemented to meet the wildfires threat.

The proclamation was issued Tuesday, on the first day of winter.
