The man — later identified as Eric Sadler — and a female passenger were traveling south on U.S. 67 when their white Chevy Impala broke down, according to police. Sadler pulled over near East Belt Line Road to check on the problem.

When Sadler exited the car to check on the problem, police said he was struck by an oncoming vehicle, which did not stop. The passenger told police the vehicle was an SUV.

Police said Sadler was struck by at least one more vehicle after the initial incident. No drivers stopped.

Cedar Hill police said they responded to the scene at about 10:15 p.m. to investigate. They're searching for an SUV that sustained significant front-end damage.

Southbound U.S. 67 was shut down for several hours overnight before reopening at about 3 a.m. Friday.
